My Sustainable Saree Fashion Fusion Edit ft. JULLAAHA

Hola Peeps!

Its been a while since we met on this space. There’s lot that’s been going on in my life, some new happy developments and of course, some not so happy ones have been keeping me away from documenting my fashion space.

Guess what?! Past few months your fashion crazy girl was on a roller coaster of another kind; most of the time went by in Track pants and tees; balancing books and backbends; and trying to calm and station them fashionholic; place-hopping nerves… for way too long. But it was a necessary satiety for the hunger of the body, mind and soul.

Won’t lie, some time went in philosophising; rethinking and procrastinating too but i’m back now with a long overdue fashion edit that i created some time ago that had gotten lost in the multitude of data storage, but now that i have it retrieved; its a fashion story i must weave.

The biggest trend 2018 saw was the re-inventing of the timeless Classic… The Magnanimous Saree; the second name of beauty and grace. A masterpiece drape that embraces a woman like no other.

While this garment was re-invented and re-styled in many ways on the ramp and wardrobes of Fashion icons; celebrities and super models from some years now. The contemporary trend saw itself being embraced; welcomed; and adopted by women from every household; age-group and field, nationwide in 2018.

It was almost as if, fashion lovers were hit by a massive wave of Saree Obsessed fashion market… while we witnessed experimentation of blouses a great deal; saree draping styles; a fusion fashion of Traditional Indian Saree with Western garments; cuts, hues and styles reached a new high.

The most amazing part of all this was the younger generation of reluctant saree wearing lasses who dabbled in this garment rarely in weddings; that too often shunning saree for more comfortable and stylish options of lehengas; gowns; dresses etc were now supporting it crazily as the new hashtag #whatstrending fashion.

The market saw an array of newly designed; Saree-dresses; Saree gowns; Lehenga sarees; pre-stitched drapes paired with Dhoti -pants; Long kaftans; Kurtas; some digital prints and 3D embroidery flowy sarees paired with croptops; sheer blouses pallazzos; leggings and even denims, coats and boots !!!

It was almost as if traditional, elegant homebound Saree was out to experience a free, wild psychedelic world not bound by symmetry; convention or humdrum of the tried methods. It felt as if Saree paced and once again embraced the generation that thrives on Change and breaking the stereotypes.

However, the loyal lover; the ardent admirer and incessant hoarder of Saree in me was a little skeptical; even critical at first. Even though i had dabbled in experimenting with the draping styles and even ditched the traditional blouse for much trendy and comfortable and stylish options (see previous blogs & insta pics)…. i thought pairing it with another western garment and accessorising it in totally different look altogether would mar its soul and would be going a bit too far.

But then we shouldn’t be adamant without at least giving the trend a chance. After all its mass popularity in the fashion world couldn’t be denied and the way it won over the hearts and brought the Saree from “Special Occasion Only” closet to everyday “hangers” in the wardrobe.

So, Mekins too set out to style my personal Edit on this trending fashion statement!!

I have always been in awe of Indian artisans and weavers ;for they are the reservoir of great many arts; dyes; techniques; textiles and weaves, though not often given their dues in contemporary times; i often feel indebted to them in enriching my experience of Living in a country as vivid as India.

I like to source my sarees directly from the weavers but it is not always possible due to multiple reasons but in my pursuit of collecting and reviving all art forms of various Indian states on textiles in the form of sarees mostly, i’m on the look out of Indigenous ,authentic ,handicraft brands that work towards the sustainability of the art works and textiles in an organic, fashionable way.

Luckily, I stumbled upon this amazing brand “Jullaaha ” that is in all spirits what i wrote above and much more!

Go through their website and find about the amazing work they are doing in creating such artworks in Saree domain and the unconditional work they are doing with artisans by providing them more work and their dues.Cheers to more such endeavours . This is what is “fashion with Purpose!”

Hence, instead going for the contemporary printed silhouettes; i chose to go Sustainable and hand -painted in my choice of the Staple Saree-BATIK SILK .And i chose to go extreme and Style it with a pair of Denims and an aztec striped print mul mul Beach Halter top !

I wanted to see for myself how i would feel and carry the style on me and then make a call on the trending fashion.

The Saree i received was an absolute delight and its traditional best.. a soft silk, navy blue base and reddish maroon hand-painted batik prints on the border and pallu. Very light weight and super comfortable; easy to carry and style and drape in an experimental fashion.

I chose a broad black belt for highlighting the contemporary styling on the midriff and keeping the saree well-placed; and wore black Pumps with glass heels from Metro Shoes. I settled for a very stylish yet ethnic looking metal box clutch to seal the look.

I did my own makeup and hair for the shoot and chose to go no kajal for the eyes and coloured lids and definitely bold and grunge on the lips. I accessorised with Beaded earrings with a picture of iconic Rekha on them courtesy KraftedWithHappiness .

Also, i Braided my usual curls in a thick, stylish side braid and was ready to shoot.

It took us a couple of hours to complete what we were set out to but i felt completely at ease in carrying this denim -Styled saree; needless to say I FELL IN LOVE with this Indo -western statement.

Now I know why the rage! And in a way i feel, it does bridge the gap and brings the younger generation more into Sarees as they can carry it hassle free and blend it into their untameable and free spirited, uber style of the ongoing Time!

So, for me this Trend is for keeps and would continue to be vogue in coming time as well.

So, Happy Draping the Six Yards Of Magic into the drama of your choice!! Most fashionable way.

GET IN THE BOOTH WITH ME ! WONT YOU?! ”PERFUME BOOTH”

💁HELLO EVERYONE!!

Its a well known saying that “You are never completely dressed till the time you wear your FRAGRANCE”.

AND YES

I Do Believe truly that’ Your Fragrance should linger on long enough even after you are gone.’ Our fragrance, like every thing else on the outside , is also a reflection of who we are as a person. Its like a scented message of your persona, a liquid emotion, more so, like your signature style.

THE SCENT OF A WOMAN

A Fragrance is the first thing that reaches out and spreads your aura after of course, 👄Smile. It transcends the other, to a dream like happy state, its like a metaphor for communicating emotions, that can be felt.

Well Cmon, its a fact that who doesn’t love to communicate with a person who smells nice!! And we do become the cringy-nosed people when we spot  Body Odour!! Yikes!

So Folks! It was pertinent  for me to bring some product for my beloved readers in this regard. I mean how could i not! A good and genuine fragrance is the utmost essential weapon in the most well-dressed Woman’s armory. 😉Wink! 😉Wink!  AND Definitely YOU 👨‍🎨Men out there its equally important for you as well as we 💁women prefer to be in the company of Gentlemen who smell nice Ahem!Ahem!😜

Its very important that a fragrance matches our senses, our spirit and our  persona to call it our very own. Hence, we can’t depend on gas-filled deodorants, sprays etc  to call it our personal fragrance. For that we need a unique, trusted and long staying PERFUME.

SO, After much search and thought i bring to you on my Blog A Perfume Brand named ‘PERFUME BOOTH’ a new, yet a trusted and very renowned brand in our Indian market. They have  curated a wide range of international fragrances both for Men and Women, in the form of perfumes and that too at an unimaginable price range.

I See a lot of us opting out and depending totally on deodorant and sprays for our day today fragrance needs and i feel the major reason so is their affordability. BUT deo’s, sprays don’t have the longevity and aren’t in the purest forms and often darken the skin and are harsh.

PERFUME BOOTH

PERFUME BOOTH, as a brand has understood this fact that perfumes are associated with an ‘expensive’ purchase.Hence, they have managed to eliminate the various steps in marketing and distributing a perfume and have brought premium quality fragrances from all over the world directly to the customers.

PERFUME SELFIE BOX

This brand offers about more than 40 products to choose from for both the genders. Their product range is divided mainly in two packaging categories:

  1. PERFUME SELFIE some of the names of products are, lurve; sophistique; teaze; cazanova etc
  2. 100 ml Perfume Bottles  namely, Creation Noir; Presidente; Classic Man; Active Woman; True Reflections etc.

The product that i have been sent for Review is a PERFUME SELFIE package  box named LURVE.

Its a pack of Women Perfume comprising of 7 International  perfume sticks, a Perfume Selfie Case and along with it  a Gift Voucher of Rs 501.!!!😍

SEVEN IN ONE PERFUME SELFIE BOX

👉SO, Here’s my review of this Perfume Selfie BOX.

I found this Perfume Selfie Box concept to be a unique and one of its kind concept. In this box you get to try out 7️⃣different mini  fragrances from 7️⃣different brands and later we can always pick up a bottle of your choice.

✅PACKAGING : This Perfume  Selfie box LURVE has a very impressive and luring packaging. Its a cylindrical shaped box covered  with a very attractive and tantalizing colour paper  sheet in red and the product name name hologrammed on it. On the inside, it has a thermo case in which all the 7  black coloured perfume sticks and the  red  selfie case beautifully stands in a small circle. Along with it, a  rounded series of placards, describing names of all the 7 perfume sticks and a gift voucher card is also inside the box.

Packaging is a very formative step in introducing a product to the consumer market and how impact fully its done speaks volumes about the dedication, sincerity and ambition of the brand and also, winning the hearts of its customers. I LOVED their packaging game on point.

PERFUME SELFIE CASE

✅QUANTITY : Each of the 7 perfume selfie sticks contains 4ml of product  i:e, 7×4 ml =28ml of product. Hence, we get a good deal of product in just one box,   that too of 7 different varieties to suit our mood and occasion. The product can easily last up to two months approximately.

✅PRICE RANGE: The perfume selfie box  containing 7 international perfumes sticks of 4ml each, comes at  a price of Rs 475/- only . Considering the wide variety, good quality and long lasting  products, it surely is value for money, worth every penny and high affordability factor, a big thumbs up!!

✅PAY-OFF: The brand claims the sprays to be six times longer lasting than deodrants, having a high quality perfume oil concentration. Personally, i felt it lasted more than six hours on me.

✅TRAVEL WISE: The perfume selfie case and sticks are made of light weight, plastic unbreakable mini bottles with lock lids, so are highly travel friendly and can be carried anywhere, anytime without any damage or wastage. We can easliy pick the perfume stick for the day, put it inside the selfie stick and are good to go for the day.

✅QUALITY: All the  perfumes availed to us in this box are from 7 different renowned international brands of high quality and amazing, long lasting fragrance.

✅FRAGRANCE: The LURVE Box sent to me had 7 amazingly unique and pleasing fragrances that completely suited the persona and style of a woman  like me. You will find everything that suits your taste or style whether its, floral, woody, citrus, fruity, musky etc.

They write about the LURVE WOMEN, “She’s all things classic. You’d picture her walking down the Parisian streets, holding a dozen carnations. She personifies’lurve’. She’s special and you know that.”

AND yes, the fragrances match the description perfectly and hence, suited me so well, that i fell in love with each one of them.

LURVE WOMEN

The name of the fragrances in this box are as follows:

1️⃣CHIFFON EMPER; 2️⃣TRUE REFLECTIONS CHRIS ADAMS PARIS ; 3️⃣CREATION POUR FEMME; 4️⃣VIVECA MARYAJ; 5️⃣GOLD LOUIS CARDIN; 6️⃣LADY PRESIDENTE EMPER; 7️⃣SENSUAL LOMANI PARIS.

LURVE

While each of the fragrance was beautiful and soothing my top favourites are  👌🏿SENSUAL BY LOMANI, my everyday perfume and 👍CHIFFON BY EMPER for evenings and 👏LADY PRESIDENTE for my work wear.

ALL, in all, i’m highly impressed and bowled over by this brand, its concept and product range.Specially, their initiative of bringing ‘affordability’ to the otherwise elite and occasionally used perfume.Their high quality perfumes are much better than cheap deodrants, have longevity and can now be easily incorporated into daily usage by one and all. Also, their ‘Patent Perfume Case’ is a unique and stylish concept and can be easily carried anywhere in style and used all day long.

PERFUME SELFIE STICK

HENCE, I’m highly recommending this brand to my readers, not only for their personal use but also for gifting purposes. NOT to forget the gift voucher of Rs.501/- that can be redeemed while purchasing an 100ml bottle perfume out of 42 more stylish and encapsulating products. Its a great deal.

Try these ones out and keep yourself and your lives beaming, fragrant and happy !!!

Celebrate the Goddess within You

Hi Readers !!

WAITING TO KICK START THE BLOG !

I’m back with my second blog post. This post is a celebration of the soul of Womanhood and so is the fashion and styling that I have woven into this post. For me a Soul is WHITE… Pure, Serene and Angelic. and my soul has  something to say to you.

Let yourself free for some moments in your life. STOP! Stop doing whatever important work that you are doing. Loosen Up! Take a break. BREATHE! Breathe deep. Shun away all the chores, world’s burdens, duties and responsibilities and all the turmoils and chaos.

HEY YOU! YES YOU WOMAN !

Just few moments for yourself. Only few… I promise!

Stand in front of the mirror. Devote a minute. No, don’t hurry, stay there for a while please.
When was the last time you actually took time out to gaze into your reflection for longer than a few seconds? I’m not talking about mechanically getting ready for work; or to hurriedly dress up before entering the kitchen or to put on make-up for an obligatory party. No! What I meant was when did you spare sometime out; out of love for yourself or to admire your beauty at leisure, to see those features; those worldly wise eyes; that crooked smile, that impish nose; those new found wrinkles and that grey speck in the hair.

Come let’s admire together… God’s Strongest and most magical creation.

Keep looking into the mirror and connect with your reflection. Admire her beauty, give her a well-deserved grin. Feel you are passing through the epidermal layers of your body and reach out to the Goddess that resides within.

She is residing inside of you. Crammed-up & locked in some lonely, deep, dark dungeon of an ancient Haveli in your heart, that was once lit with laughter of a young, bratty, carefree little girl. Today, no-one visits her. She is buried under the pile of worldly worries, duties & responsibilities that crowds your head-space today.

She is covered in the black residual angst of the busy, burdened heart but her fairy duststill sparkles from places beneath the soot.

She is unmistakably sad !!!
Sad, not because she is wronged or lacks the will to stand out or has seen only dark times. She is sad because she is forgotten! She is sad because that little girl who was once her friend has not visited her since long. That girl has grown up to be a Woman and has a world of her own.
In the fight to reach afar; to meet her responsibilities and never ending duties; in the race to be what is expected out of her and keeping everyone happy. She has no time for the Goddess within her. Slowly the goddess is dying, she’s calling out… calling out to, her only friend.

So have you looked into the mirror enough? Keep looking till the time you find that Girl-Woman.

Now that you have found both, understand they both reside inside you. Both are your reflections. All that, the Goddess inside you needs is a little of your time and love. She is the one who instills the aura in your persona and uniqueness in your being. Do not forget! She has been there all along; when you got scared at that extempore competition but still won; when you were banned to dance but you danced your heart out nevertheless; when you dreamily gave that speech on your farewell and talked about your dreams and desires, some still unfulfilled; when the chubby you joined the football team and everyone laughed. She was there when you first wore a saree which looked more like a lungi and even when you cooked your first half-burnt meal.

NO TIME FOR HER!

She is the one, the Goddess in you, the magic in you, who never lets you back down. She is the one who gave you that wand and the invisible crown and fairy dust in your hand. You went on to become the best possible self of you, a self you loved, a self who has perfected the art of wearing a saree; cooking a perfect meal and giving the best speeches ever.

Today, you are adept at all the worldly things and more. Yet the Goddess cries.
She cries for those days when you used to revel in your own self, never bothered about what anyone said or criticised. She yearns for those leisurely, fun-filled days when you used to do as you pleased; picked up what you fancied; said what you felt; with absolutely no care about what the world said and expected out of you.

She wants your love, your admiration, your adulation. She wants you to cut yourself some slack. She wants you to judge yourself a little less. She wants you to flaunt your self just the way you are. Whatever Shape, whatever Size, whatever Age, whatever Colour, whatever Height. She wants you not to constantly nudge & torture yourself into the race of being the best mother, best wife, best daughter, best sister. She wants you to rid yourself from the worry of these called tags of ‘a working selfish woman’ or an aimless ‘identity ridden homemaker’. More so, of being called a ‘man -eater widow’; ‘a lusty cougar’ or a ‘gold-digger’.

She wants you not to succumb to ever changing worldly beauty standards and feel a mis-fit in the world where everyone is judged; some called ‘blonde bimbettes’ or ‘sexy brunettes’; ‘size zeroes’ and ‘fat hoes’.To not follow fashion fads; or trends blindly; to not go by rules someone else made;to not order a pizza if you preferred dal- chawal; to not be a party animal out of obligation; to not judge or bitch about fellow sisters to be a part of any mighty social group; to not put on makeup if that’s not your style.

Rather, say what you feel; eat what you please; wear what you fancy; do what your heart tells you not your age, people or their social status.

She wants you to revel in the divinity of your Womanhood; to keep the Goddess alive. Shower her sparkly dust to everything you touch. She wants you to let the little girl live inside of the Woman you are now. To take pride in your likes & dislikes. To take time out for your own self and the little joys of life even if its for a few moments in a day.Whether its reading or music; laughing with friends over a cup of tea; shopping or dancing in the rain; staying in your pyjamas and torn- tees; whatever that makes your inner Goddess happy and thriving.

Coming to the outfit and styling part of the blog, ITS BEEN STYLED FOR ALL THE GODDESSES OUT THERE.
The dress i picked up for this post’s shoot is a basic cream-white, soft, crinkled woven cotton skater dress; it has a delicate lace detailing, bell-sleeves and cold shoulder. Its from the brand STALK BUY LOVE and is named Alabaster dress.

This outfit was love at first sight; even though i had pledged not to go for anymore whites; couldn’t resist! Guilty as charged! I have a thing for whites; i feel a little more of myself wearing it. This dress is comfortable and easy breezy and brings out the inner GODDESS in me; happy, dancing and confident in her skin. As much as this outfit goes by what’s trending, in terms of sleeves and cuts; i went in for this one because of the fabric, silhouette and colour. My perfect go-to outfit for summers, monsoons and fall.

My LWD-little white dress has become a wardrobe essential as it can be used and styled in multiple ways; It can be a perfect comfy travel outfit or can be worn for a brunch or an evening party. It can be highlighted with accessories and you’ll be good to go for an event.

For the first look i have teamed the outfit with just a white-floral tiara; for that angelic look; in dedication to today’s topic.

THE GODDESS IN YOU!!
REVEL IN YOUR DIVINITY

For the second look i have paired the dress with a quirky shirt and a broad tanned belt at the waist and tanned comfy pom-pom tie-up flats; perfect for travel; coffee date with friends; shopping or hopping places; a tanned travel bag is used to highlight the look at places.

KILLING IT IN SOME TRAVEL READY OOMPH!!
SOME AIRPORT KILLER STYLE STATEMENT MAYBE!!
TRAVEL HOPPING IN STYLE
TOO TRAVEL TIRED TO CHANGE FOR THE NEXT EVENT.?

The third look that i have styled is by using a floral, printed pure-chiffon dupatta with the dress, tied around the waist with a tanned belt and some black bangles just to add to the look and you are good to hop from an airport look to a party look!! (the outfit is too comfy to change, better style it up a notch and attend the party!)

BLACK BANGLES & SOME CURLY ENTANGLES
THE EXTRA MILE IN STYLE
SASS IT UP A NOTCH AND PARTY!!
WITH THE INVISBLE WAND,THE CROWN SPREADING SPARKLING DUST AROUND!

Wearing my Mother’s Touch

Namastey !!

My first blog post ! I have all the feelings juxtaposed inside of me. I’m a nervous wreck but super happy and hopeful as this feels like my calling! I thought and thought time and again, tore many a pages from my diary. What should I write about in my first blog? Would it be impressive enough? Am I doing justice to the shoots? I’m already joining the band wagon pretty late! Will today’s learned readers have time & love for my work in their busy lives? In today’s fleeting world, will I have few loyal critics. All this was messing my head ,so I closed the diary, shut down the computer & went out for a stroll to clear my head. A breath of fresh air did real good to me. A sense of calm achieved, I realised that the first thing that brought me to setup my own blog was to have a place where I can be unapologetically me. I wanted to share my persona in the truest sense with the like-minded people. Then why these doubts? They have no place in mind.

So, here I am, pretty confident & transparent with my first fashion blog post. I bring to you what comes easily to me.

My momma has been the benchmark I always wanted to achieve. I’m her shadow and that’s who I want to be. So, the first garment I wanted to style on my blog

1. had to be something from my momma & my mommyland,
2. had to be a piece with Indian hand-work,
3. had to tell a story,
4. had to be my most favourite one,
5. had to be a style that reflected my persona.

So, I chose a Saree; my quintessential go-to traditional outfit forever. This one is a Kashmiri Pure Chinon fabric, a must-have in all wardrobes and trousseau’s of J&K women. A bottle green six yards of sheer elegance with mukaish hand-work (fardi, badla work of shiny dots on the fabric, though nawabi, lucknowi art form but zealously pursued in J&K), perfect for this season, neither too heavy nor too casual.

Currently my favourite and most prized possession, I had thrown a huge tantrum back then when momma gave me the news that she had given a Saree for dyeing and hand-work and that one day it would be a part of my wedding trousseau. I don’t know what got over me and I started finding faults with the choice of colour, work and the fact that if it was for me, then, I should have been the one to choose. To my surprise, when the final product arrived in my momma’s hand, and she unveiled it, I was AMAZED!! It was the perfect shade of green I liked, perfect amount of work and an easy-breezy light weight fabric. Nevertheless, I had to maintain my annoyed-daughter-face, and still looked for excuses to not approve of the Saree. Why do you think I was behaving the way I Was?

I tried to hurt my momma’s emotions that day of which I repent till date. I thought many a times then, that why I behaved the way I behaved. A teenage girl wouldn’t understand the complexities of her own growing self but today, that girl is a woman; her reflections more clearer, her emotions more sorted. Today I understand that the fact that, the word wedding trousseau triggered many unknown emotions inside me that day. The first one being, my momma is going to give me away one day. Rest were all excuses.

So folks, I have styled this important piece of my life in two ways.

First, I have styled this Saree with a plain magenta raw silk choli/crop-top; with an intention to make the look not so heavy and to let the Saree do all the talking. I embellished this look with silver metallic jewellery; a chunky peacock neck-piece, and lotus jhumkis. A smokey blackish-green eye makeup and pink lips; and let my hair the most natural way I keep. Also, for the cover shoot of my blog i styled this same look with a gorgeous pink and white double-shade stole of kasmiri aari work from my collection.

Saree with a plain magenta raw silk choli/crop-top
Teamed with silver peacock neck piece and lotus jhumkis
Silver lotus jhumkis. Sheer love
And that mole… my heart on my cheek

My second look comprises of the same Saree paired with a very quirky, trendy, urban white off-shoulders, bell-sleeved top with my most favourite mangoes print on it (mango being the king flavour of the season).

I embellished this bold look with a gorgeous metallic belt (my favourite accessory in my wardrobe) and continued to team it with the lotus jhumkis.I tied my hair in a basic bun and a satin clutch sling to complete the look.

Saree paired with a quirky, trendy, urban white off-shoulders, bell-sleeved top
Quirky mango print off-shoulder top paired with the Saree
Sealed the look with a silver metallic belt and green satin clutch
Drool-worthy green heels to slay the look
